'Eat, Pray, Love' by Liz Gilbert.
This was recommended by Kate and inspired a visit to the cinema to see Julia Roberts portraying the role of Liz.
Mixed opinions on the book and on Liz herself!
The October meeting was also our first 'Pot Pourri' meeting where we read and enjoyed many different titles.

Alyson read 'The Return' by Victoria Hislop; a tale of flamenco, family and passion played out in modern-day and 1930s Spain. Alyson recommended this love story and gave it a 7.5 out of 10.
Deirdre has been reading 'Puppies For Dummies' from the 'Dummies' series as she's getting a girl puppy Cairn Terrier on Saturday!! (Congratulations on the new arrival to your family; hope you all enjoy her!) She recommends this book and says it's been very helpful and wishes she'd read it before getting Finnigan!
Theresa read 'Eat, Pray, Love' by Liz Gilbert and was pleasantly surprised. She thought Liz self-indulgent and annoying but the book held together well and she thought it presented as a nice package. Theresa also did a little background research and discovered Liz actually became quite wealthy due to writing the filmscript for 'Coyote Ugly'. On her earnings she was able to splash out on life a bit more, taking a lover and then travelling for a year (my words, not Theresa's!) and then she wrote a successful book about her experience and Julia Roberts starred in the film - oooooh, what a lucky girl (Liz not Julia - although Julia's probably hoping for another Oscar for her performance but I don't think she'll get it as she was just too old for the part! Meow!)
Sam read 'Our Tragic Universe' written by Scarlett Thomas (who wrote 'The End of Mr Y') and really enjoyed it saying it was a page turner. Grace read lots of Barefoot Board Books and would recommend any of the bear stories.
Sarah read 'Of Mice and Men' early and will have loads to talk about at our next meeting in December! I have the film and must find the DVD so Sarah can watch it - although it will make you cry, Sarah!
Helen also read 'Eat, Pray, Love' and I think, like me, she enjoyed the book more than the film. I think the hubby really loved Liz and he was just narked that she made a million and boogied off with another man (possibly David?) Liz eventually settles down with Filipe from Brazil and becomes much more considerate and thoughtful because she can finally live happily ever after!
I also read 'When I Loved Myself Enough' by Kim McMillen, published in the USA in 1996, years before Liz Gilbert wrote her book and yet the messages are very similar!
There is also a TED lecture with Liz Gilbert which is possibly accessible via www.youtube.com but I'll find the link later and let you all have it. There is now also a sequel entitled 'Committed' (not sure if that reflects her attitude towards marriage now or what she should be...maybe the men in white coats have finally caught up with her!)
